Orora Global, Inc. is a social enterprise that builds truly sustainable communities using affordable renewable energy as a vehicle for innovation. Our programs are co-designed with the communities and bring more opportunities to local women and youth. Clean technology provides a necessary platform to develop innovative solutions to eradicating energy poverty and create livelihood opportunities in manufacturing, thereby impacting the triple bottom line sustainability.
Orora’s team of women who have recently been impacted by climate change in the village of Amoor (India) have been trained in electronics and solar engineering for 3 years and can manufacture Orora’s LED Solar Streetlight Cluster. Each of the cluster costs $2000 and is a 46W LED lighting solution powered by solar power for up to 8 hours. It replaces the use of kerosene fuel for at least 20 homes in a village currently completely entrapped in energy poverty. Replacing kerosene with this lighting solution reduces the carbon emission by 13 tons of CO2 every year.
Our target is to light up 1000 Indian villages currently in energy poverty with Orora’s LED Solar Streetlight Cluster. The production will happen in batches of 100 clusters. We expect the first batch to be installed and ready for verification by the end of 2024.
